I am honored to share with you, the special news that C&W Networks won the Wholesale Service Innovation worldwide award category, in the Global Telecom Business (GTB) Telecoms Innovation Awards 2017 in London.

The team was recognized as the best in innovation and leading successful project partnerships between operators and vendors across the Caribbean region. Our major partnership project included working with Bell Canada and their end customer, Scotiabank. For this project, we provided them with the next generation MPLS network to implement Scotiabank’s technology plan in the Caribbean.  The goal was to migrate Scotiabank’s 234 branches across 21 countries in the Caribbean to a new and advance network platform in 18 months.

We not only completed it on time, we won an award for the innovative business model behind the project!

This award is a win for the entire Company, as this project involved groups and individuals from across the entire Company – from the T&I to Commercial and all the support teams.  It involved the joint efforts and cooperation of representatives from our business units Flow, C&W Business and C&W Networks and the team in the Center.

Congratulation to the entire team!

Here are some of the highlights of this project and why we are considered ‘innovators’:

  • The Bell/Scotiabank Project is a game changer for Scotiabank in terms of network up time and issue resolution, not only as it relates to operational matters, but also commercial and administrative.
  • File transfers that used to take six weeks on the old network take only two days on the new network.
  • In Jamaica, Scotiabank used to experience 20 outages per day on the old provider’s network. Now, with the high quality and redundant design of the new and improved Bell Canada/C&W network, these outages were reduced to 1 or 2 per month.
  • The new network has a 345% increase in bandwidth capacity.
  • MPLS failover time has been reduced from 180 seconds to 3-5 seconds.
  • 6 MB email attachment improved from 330 seconds to 35 seconds.

Ultimately, this award is proof that while our next generation network is a key component of our success, our competitive advantage is not a tangible asset that our competitors can replicate – what separates us from the competition is our ability to think outside the box, our ingenuity, our flexibility, and above all else, our ability to take the best of each business unit to provide value far beyond what any of our entities could provide independently.
